The them chosen by Pope Francis for this year's celebration is "Do no cast me off in my old age" (cf. Psalm 71:9). In his message, the Holy Father reassured the addressees that "God never abandons His children, never", and referred to the elderly as "the firm foundation" on which "new" stones can rest, in order to join in erecting a spiritual edifice.
